ELF had contracted my services to The United States Navy, where I was traveling extensively and instructing classes on various software operation and administration procedures. The classes included advanced as well as introductory classes on NT Administration, Internet and Web, and more. During the times between classes I would provide technical support for the Medical Branch of The United States Navy, by serving on the National Medical Information Management Center (NMIMC) tier 2 support team. Here is where I created the need for them to be on the Web. After providing a proof of concept on how well a web presence would benefit them, the money was allocated to purchase servers and my position changed to webmaster. I was then responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the Windows NT Network. I had effectively created and managed a complete Internet solution on a Microsoft Platform. I was responsible for the fieldwork, as well as the drawing and reporting of the buildings information. Buildings were measured by hand, in teams of two, then those measurements were transferred to computer where proprietary software was used to calculate the square footage that each tenant occupied. The application was called CASA16 it was written in Basic to run on HP hardware. I modified the CASA16 program to suit the needs of and expectations of Pace. My primary education was in architectural design and structural engineering. Working with HMC afforded me the opportunity to learn the intricacies of the Intergraph VAX/VMS systems. Developing for those systems was complicated and still truly “client - server” with a dummy terminal backed up to a very large mainframe. The development consisted of customizing the Intergraph application by setting specifics and building custom scripts that were available to specific users based on permissions. Scripts were very specific and were used to accelerate very complicated manual tasks.
